At Morning Star Children’s Dentistry, we prioritize both the dental health and comfort of our young patients. One of the essential treatments we offer is a pulpotomy, a procedure specifically designed to treat and save a decayed or infected baby tooth.

A pulpotomy is often recommended when decay or injury has reached the pulp of a baby tooth—the soft inner part containing nerves and blood vessels. This procedure is essential when decay is extensive but has not yet affected the root of the tooth. A pulpotomy helps preserve the tooth and maintain the integrity of your child’s growing oral structure.

During the procedure, our skilled pediatric dentist will remove the infected pulp tissue from the crown of the tooth (the part visible above the gum line). After thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting the area, we fill the space with a biocompatible material to prevent further decay and infection. To finish, we place a dental crown to restore the tooth’s strength and function. Our team ensures that your child’s experience is as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

A pulpotomy can effectively save a tooth that might otherwise need extraction. It relieves pain, stops the spread of infection, and preserves the space needed for the eruption of permanent teeth. Keeping the baby tooth in place also supports normal chewing, speech development, and alignment of the adult teeth.

If your child is experiencing tooth pain or you suspect decay, a pulpotomy might be the next step.
